College Access Foundation of California Names
Jacqueline Khor as Vice President for Programs

San Francisco – College Access Foundation of California has named Jacqueline Khor, an experienced grant maker and leader in the field of impact investing, as vice president for programs, effective April 18, 2011. Khor will lead a team responsible for grant making, program strategy and evaluation focused on improving college access and success for low-income students in California. She succeeds Jay Sherwin, who left the foundation in November 2010.

Khor has held senior positions in philanthropy, investment banking and impact investing – a growing practice where investments are made in companies and organizations working to advance social or environmental goals and generate financial returns. Most recently, Khor was a managing director at Imprint Capital Advisors, a San Francisco-based firm that provides impact investment advisory services to private, corporate and community foundations, family offices and wealth advisors.

Previously, Khor was associate director at the Rockefeller Foundation, where she created and managed an investment portfolio of more than $20 million focused on improving human health, increasing food security in Africa, addressing urban unemployment and promoting the arts and cultural expression. The foundation helped lay the groundwork for the growing interest in impact investing today.

Khor also served as director of the employment program at the New York City Partnership, vice president for public finance at Lehman Brothers and director of marketing at Russell Miller, Inc. She received her bachelor’s degree from the University of California at Berkeley, and a master’s in Public and Private Management from the Yale School of Management.

“We’re very fortunate that Jackie will contribute her rich experience in philanthropy and California to lead our program team,” said Julia I. Lopez, president and CEO of College Access Foundation of California.

“In the past two years, we’ve strengthened our connections to community organizations throughout California and gained a deeper understanding of the importance of our scholarship grants to students in need. We also want to be as innovative as we can in maximizing our resources. Jackie’s the ideal person to lead that next important phase of our work,” Lopez added.

Jackie Khor said, “I am very honored to join College Access Foundation. I first came to the United States to attend UC Berkeley, so I know the importance of higher education to our aspiring young people and to California as a whole. I look forward to helping more California students attend and succeed in college, particularly those who face significant financial barriers to pursuing their dreams.”

College Access Foundation of California helps California students who have financial need attend college. The Foundation makes grants to community organizations and programs that offer advice and academic support to students, and use its funds to award college scholarships.

Since its inception in 2005, the foundation has made over $50 million in grants to more than 100 community organizations and education programs throughout California. These organizations in turn have awarded nearly 20,000 scholarships to low-income and first-generation students. Today, the foundation’s endowment is approximately $400 million.
